The Pen Museum 'For

Modern
Fountain Pens
One of the advantages of
repairing dozens of of pens every week is to learn first hand the strengths and
weaknesses of nearly every make and model of fountain pen. Sheaffer have always
used poor plastics with a tendency to crack, for example. Or Montblanc, with
their tendency to overfill and therefore leak. Some pens have weak clips that
break easily. Some are poorly balanced and uncomfortable to write with for any
length of time. And some are simply over-hyped and over-priced.
Having this knowledge, I am
therefore well-placed to advise the buyer of a new fountain pen and to point out
that in many cases aesthetic design often triumphs over function and quality.
Parker, for example, have lost the art of making quality, top-end fountain pens,
but can still produce cheaper pens that are better than anything around.
The modern pens that I offer for
sale are ones that I consider to be the best available in their price range -
and you may be surprised at some of the omissions.
Vintage Fountain Pens
The
photo shown here is one corner of what was once The Pen Museum. The vintage pens
offered for sale on these pages all come from these shelves and are for
the benefit of collectors and those seeking to replace a much-loved favourite.
Not all of these receive my personal blessing, since the choice of a pen can
often be a subjective matter, but they have all been checked, serviced where
necessary and are in full working order. Most are
'one-offs' but of some of the later models I have several, as they were bought
originally to break down for spare parts for the repair workshop.
If you are looking for a pen to use,
rather than collect, I will be happy to provide you with any advice or
further information you need on the pens shown. You might also like to read my article Choosing A Fountain Pen in the Masterclass
